Railway 200 Whistle Off at the Plym Valley Railway

On New Year’s Day, the Plym Valley Railway will join other UK heritage railways in a nationwide ‘whistle off’ to mark the start of Railway 200.
This evocative rekindling of an old railway tradition has been coordinated by the Heritage Railway Association and across the country, heritage locomotives will sound their whistles at 12 noon on 1 January 2025. It will signal the start of a year of events to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of modern railways.
A team of our dedicated volunteers will be on site with a host of locomotives at Marsh Mills ready to kick start the year of railway celebrations.
Daniel Phillips, Company Chairman of Plym Valley Railway Co. Ltd ‘We are really starting off 2025 with a bang, or a whistle, as we celebrate Rail200! We will have several locomotives fired up and lined up ready to welcome in the new year which the public are welcome to come and see’.
The Plym Valley Railway will be taking part in a number of events during 2025 to mark Railway 200, including our ever popular transport weekend and to inspire the next generation, our ‘drive a train day’ will be making a return for 2025!
