Ever wanted to take the controls of a train?

Have a budding friend/family member who’s an avid train fanatic?

The Plym Valley Railway is the place to be!

We are running short 15 minute train driving experiences throughout the day. Pre-booking at 30 minute intervals is available. Participants will learn the controls of the diesel locomotive and will drive the train for one return trip over half of our railway all for just £5.00. We will also be running Brake Van Rides and cab rides at intervals between the driver experiences.

Terms and Conditions

All participants must be over 14 and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Under 14s are welcome in the cab of the locomotive with an adult driving. Max two persons in the cab. All attendees in the cab must be wearing sensible clothing and footwear, be medically fit and be able to disembark from the locomotive to track level in an emergency. Instructions from the train crew, consisting of a driver and second man, must be adhered to. Participation is at the discretion of the driver on an individual basis.

A Driver Experience is perfect!

Learn the preparation and driving on an industrial diesel engine, drive with the locomotive alone and with a load, operate points, crossing gates and uncouple trains. The Driver Experience is a great gift or activity for anyone who wants to see what it’s like to be a driver on a heritage railway. It’s also a great expansion from the ‘Driver a Train mentioned above.

Terms and Conditions

All participants must be over 16 and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Max two persons in the cab. All attendees must be wearing sensible clothing and footwear while ensuring that it is known that a railway can be dirty, wet or oily etc, be medically fit and be able to disembark from the locomotive to track level in an emergency. Participants must be able to walk on ballast and on other line side surfaces. Instructions from the train crew, consisting of a driver and second man, must be adhered to. Participation is at the discretion of the driver on an individual basis. More detailed T&Cs will be sent prior to the experience which must be agreed upon before the experience commences.
